A couple of years back, our company realised that there was a huge opportunity to start an Aprilia parts microfiche system online. However, the only true hurdle we encountered was how we were going to implement such a thing. Aprilia have roughly 115,000 active lines of genuine parts at anyone time and the availability of electronic data back then was almost non existent in the motorcycle industry. So, we literally secured a domain name (www.apriliaparts.co.uk) and put it on ice.
So, back to present day and after three weeks of design, programming and testing we launched the all new Aprilia parts website on 9th October 2008. We had been beaten to the finish line by two other aprilia parts websites but this gave us the perfect opportunity to test their sites and list all the 'positives' and 'negatives' an Internet browser would encounter. The outcome of customers has had a positive response so far. I appreciate that everyone does not have the same tastes or requirements but i would love to hear any suggestions anyone may have.
The aprilia parts website isn't quite complete at the moment, we are currently working on a clothing and accessories section at accompany the Aprilia Parts section of the site. Again, how do you handle such an in depth part of the business. We have to take into consideration everything from Motorcycle Jackets and Motorcycle Gloves to fridge magnets and umbrellas. Yes, Aprilia Motorcycles sell fridge magnets and Umbrellas...
Whilst developing the site, we had to also consider many other things. Some of these were, how were we going to communicate with our customers?, who were our customers?, Do we communicate in English?, or do we try a variation of popular languages?. We decided to go with the following... Our contact page shows a few simple things, a contact form, a location map, a telephone number and a skype number. This would cover most common scenarios of communication. Secondly, who were our customers? Well, we cheated slightly on this and used the statistics from our current motorcycle website. All of the obvious countries stuck out, UK, USA, Europe, Australia etc etc. However, there were a few less obvious ones which i will reserve to tell you. This leads us onto the languages, we decided to go with Italian, Spanish, English, French and German. Although everything is not quite fully translated yet, the important information held in the parts lists are. Getting to this area is really simple, no matter which language you speak. Its a series of pictures and Aprilia Motorcycle titles which stay generic wherever you are in the world. What do we want from this site? World domination would be nice! I would love to have this site at the forefront of every Aprilia's riders tongue... A place they came to for either reference or to make their next purchase of Genuine Aprilia parts, clothing or accessories.
